Montana
Yesterday, I biked another 22 miles beyond Lolo Pass, into Montana. The descent was sustained, but not very steep. Below is a picture from the first established location I passed in Montana, Lolo Hot Springs. It's a tourist destination that offers cabins, campsites, bars, restaurants, and of course, hot springs.
A photo from Lolo Hot Springs. The bar in the background featured live music. They didn't seem to care that I was underage when I went inside to listen.
Despite the rain, I didn't want to pay for camping or hot springs, so I continued to pedal downhill on hwy 12, which was pretty much empty.
Trip meter reading 100.46 miles.
I found an acceptable place to set up my tent on the roadside. Then, at 3:30 this morning, I awoke to the sound of grinding rock and heavy machinery. (Video below)
Moving forward, I'm going to try and delay my riding a bit until I can meet back up with Elijah. Perhaps I'll ride north to Glacier National Park or south towards Yellowstone. Not sure yet.
Finally, here are several more pictures from Clearwater National Forest. (Not in chronological order with the rest of the blog)
Why would they advertise that?
Taken near the entrance to Clearwater National Forest.

I don’t think they’re intentionally advertising their declining population. I think someone decided to leave. Maybe headed to college. Got a job in the city. Lover’s spat. Just needed out. And after a drunken farewell party, stumbled to the sign and made the correction to immortalize their decision to leave. Also: nice pics!
