FAQ

 Where are you coming from?

Oregon, United States of America.

Where are you going?

South through the Americas, towards Argentina.

How long have you been traveling?

Since November 2022.

How old are you?

My birthday is 25 December 1999.

Why?

I started because it seems like a cool thing to do. I continue because it's exciting and because I want to realize my dreams.

What do your parents think about it?

My parents support what I'm doing and they think it's a cool adventure. They also worry about my safety.

They said:

"Amazing!  I'm trying to tone down my bragging about you, and my worrybug side as well.  💕" -My father

"I think that this is a great and good way for you to be moving through the world. I always look forward to seeing and reading your posts. Your observations are insightful and your connections with people are genuine. I miss you very much and am always glad when we get to be together. I know the fragility of life and I do feel some background fear that increases as you move towards areas of political instability, and I have also seen the care and attention with which you move through your surroundings." -My mother

How do you pay for it?

People often ask about money. I tell them I worked for several years after high school to save money for this trip. That is true. What's also true is that I worked and saved that money in the United States, where wages are relatively high. I was able to save 20-40% of my income.

Additionally, my parents help pay for university, allowing me to pursue virtually any career path. This privileged position emboldens me to spend my savings now, with plans of returning to the USA for work and university. So although I travel with money I've earned myself, suggesting that anyone could follow my financial path would be dishonest.

I saved 25,000 USD before starting. Total daily costs are about 20 USD.

What is your job?

Most recently I worked as a bicycle mechanic. I have also worked as a ski tuning technician and other odd-jobs.

Did you go to College?

I studied chemical engineering for two years at Oregon State University, but haven't finished yet.
